What is a CAL?
CAL is the abbreviation for Crochet-ALong.
For most CALs a part of a pattern is released in a specific time frame, usually weekly. Most of the time the completed work is shown upfront, sometimes the end-result remains a mystery until the last part is completed.
Designers who are sponsored or who work with yarn companies might offer complete yarn packages in several colour ways.
Most CALs are offered for blankets, but shawls, bags or even amigurumi toys are also popular.
