Peg Doll Mama Spring/Autumn Shawl

Peg Doll Mama Spring or Autumn Shawl Crochet Pattern

If your Little People like playing with Peg Dolls, they will love this sweet spring or autumn shawl for Mama from our Peg Doll Accessories Collection.

Make them in neutral or bold colours, from soft cotton or silk yarn to match the rest of Mama’s wardrobe.

The idea for this shawl for Mama came about after a friend had asked me to create hats and a sling in different sizes for her Peg Dolls.

She was planning to sell them with her handmade timber houses at one of upcoming the Waldorf/Steiner school festivals and needed them done quickly.

In all honesty, I got into a bit of a frenzy making hats in all kinds of colour variations. I really do like how simply using different kinds of colour combinations additional to using stripes or just a rim for the hats can change the look and feel of the Peg Dolls.

However, I wanted to create something even more…

After all, if Peg Dolls wear hats and nothing else, won’t they get a bit cold around the body?

By the way, if you would like a pattern for making those hats in all different sizes, you can find a tutorial here and a downloadable pdf in either US or UK terms here.

Anyhoo, I felt some sort of clothing was needed for balance, so I designed a Mama shawl.

Peg Doll Mama Shawl Pattern

Row 1:

2sc, ch2, 2sc in Magic Ring, pull the ring tight, ch1, turn
{2 x 2sc plus ch2}

Row 2:

2sc in 1st st, sc in BLO of next st, (sc, ch2, sc) in ch2 space, sc in BLO of next st, 2sc in last sc, ch1, turn
{2 x 4sc plus ch2}

Row 3:

2sc in 1st st, sc in FLO in each st until ch2 space, (sc, ch2, sc)  in ch2 space, sc in FLO of each st across until 1 st remains, 2sc in last st, ch1, turn
{2 x 6/10/14/18sc plus ch2 for row 3/5/7/9}

Row 4:

2 sc 1st st, sc in BLO in each st until ch2 space, (sc, ch2, sc) in ch2 space, sc in BLO of each st across until 1 st remains, 2sc in last st, ch1, turn
{2 x 8/12/16sc plus ch2 for row 4/6/8}

Repeat rows 3 and 4 until you have 9 rows altogether.

Rows 5, 7 and 9: work as row 3. Rows 6 and 8: work as row 4.

You will have 18 sts on each side of the ch2 space. At the end of row 9 ch1, but do not turn. You will be working along the straight side now, facing the bumpy side of the shawl.

Row 10:

Evenly distribute 21 sc along the top. You could make 2 sc in the 1st and last st. If your 11th st falls into the magic ring you started with, it’s a check mark that you are well on your way. Ch1 and turn.
{21sc}

Row 11:

(sc, ch1, sk 1 st) 10 times, sc.
You should now have 10 ch1 spaces. Sl st into top of the st around the corner for a neater finish.
Fasten off and weave in the end.
{11sc, 10 ch1 sps)

To make a chain cord, ch 50, cut the yarn.

The pattern makes two nice sides. Choose the one you like better as the outside.
Weave the chain in and out of the top row spaces in a way that best encompasses the outside stitches and cut the ends of the chain cord short on each side.
