Yarn Review – Mondial Cotton Soft

Mondial Cotton Soft Bio is a 100% organic cotton yarn made in Italy by Lane Mondial.

The yarn comes in 50g balls with 180m yardage.

It is classified as a #3 weight yarn with a gauge of 28 stitches and 33 rows for a 10 x 10cm swatch, using 2.5 – 3mm hook or needles.

The yarn comes in either the beside speckled variation or as a variegated yarn in several colourways.

I got my hands on these beauties when I was looking for a yarn that I could use to make an amigurumi cat (Ameniko Cat). I wanted it to be special and good to work with.

I was a bit sceptical if it would be easy to work with the Cotton Soft, as it has a beautiful shine to it similar to a mercerised yarn. Those are often slippery or have a tendency to split easily, but the Cotton Soft didn’t.

It was necessary to adjust my gauge because the yarn slipped so softly through my fingers, but it was a bliss to crochet this project.

A new project with this yarn is in the making, this time a lizard. The challenge with this pattern will be to bring out features like popcorn stitches. I am curious to find out how the yarn will behave in the bends to come and how fiddly it will be to work out the super small feet and toes.

I will update you with the progress.
